The military symbols
used throughout this website are mainly based on Royal Army
regulation
VS 2-1120/2 (1975 and 1989 editions) and the NATO Unclassified
document APP-6 Military Symbols
for Land Based Systems
(1986). They are not necessarily used in the same manner as
prescribed by these regulations, though they usually are. Symbols are
used to indicate function rather than (affiliation
to) a service branch, e.g. the signals group of an engineer battalion
is indicated with a signals symbol rather than an engineer symbol. Note
that symbols
can be combined, as for example the symbol for armoured
reconnaissance
is a combination of the armour and reconnaissance
symbols. Not all
combinations used are shown in this key. |
